Today, I rode on my road bike with a group based in Bangkok.
We rode about 30 miles. There were about 50 of us.
The furthest I've ever been on this bike (or any bike) was probably something like 10 miles.
Two days ago someone mentioned they were meeting for this.
Yesterday I bought a helmet and jersey.
Today, I rode.
And today was also the Thai's New Year's Day.
Also known as Songkran Festival.
Also known as one of the biggest water fights on earth.
Out of 50, I was one of the two who were on road bikes. The rest were riding with mountain bikes.
They had a good reason. I had to be careful because a lot of the trail was rocky.
It was meditative, but my slick tires did not burst.
I rode 30 miles with grace, and with a little bit of butt pain.
I was splashed once- a full bucket of water, by a little boy in the back of a pickup truck, going the opposite direction.
It felt like a basketball hitting my face.
It felt refreshing, after the initial shock of a basketball hitting your face, which doesn't happen if a real basketball hits your face.
Today was a good day.
I am glad to hear you are still riding. I hope to be celebrating the New Year this weekend. Happy New Year to you and your family.
